WATER DISTANCE FREESTYLE SELECTION POLICY 2012-13 SEASON
1. ATHLETE
SELECTION
1.1 Ages eligible for selection
1.1.1 Boys competing as 14, 15, or 16 years
at British Gas ASA National Age/Youth
Championships 2012
1.1.2 Girls competing as 14, 15, or 16
years at British Gas ASA National Youth
Championships 2012
1.2 There are 12 places available for
selection in each England Talent Level 2 Zone.
1.3 6 selections will be made based on the
fasted time performed by an English male and female
swimmer of each of the above ages (1.1.1
and 1.1.2) at Nationals Age Group and Youth
Championships in the 800m and 1500m
freestyle.
1.4 The remaining 6 selections will be made
by the England Talent Open Water Lead, the Regional
Talent Development Officer and the England
Talent Delivery Manager following a review of:
1.4.1 Results at the National Age and Youth
Open Water Championships 2012,
1.4.2 800m/1500m Results from National Age
and Youth Championships 2012,
1.4.3 2012 800m/1500m Rankings 1st January
– 21st July 2012,
1.5 Athletes selected for England Talent
Development Level 3 Programme will not be considered
for selection.
1.6 Swimmers selected for World Class
Programmes will not be considered for selection.
1.7 Only athletes selected will be notified
by the England Talent Team.
1.8 In the situation of a tie on times,
SwimNews International Points Scores will be used to rank
and prioritise selections.
2 COACH
SELECTION
2.1 A Head Coach will be selected by the
Talent Development Officer in agreement with the
England Talent Delivery Manager.
2.2 The Head Coach must hold the UKCC Level
3/ASA Coaches Certificate or equivalent, or be
enrolled on an UKCC/ASA Coach Course at
time of selection.
2.3 The Head Coach must be able to fully commit
to attending all aspects of the ETDP and any
coach who has withdrawn or been excluded
from the current ETDP season may be ineligible
for selection.
2.4 The Head Coach and Talent Development
Officer will identify coaches to assist in the delivery
of the programme.
2.5 Coaches delivering the programme will
be expected to commit to attending all aspects of the
ETDP and any individual who has withdrawn
or been excluded from the current ETDP season
may be ineligible for selection.
2.6 The Club of each selected swimmer will
be invited to send a Coach to programme activities.
2.7 The Talent Development Officer may
invite further coaches to attend and contribute to the
programme.

3.1 For Selection via 1.3
3.1.1 British Gas ASA National Age Group
Championships (Sheffield) July 2012
3.1.2 British Gas ASA National Youth
Championships (Sheffield) July 2012
3.2 For Selection via 1.4
3.2.1 British Gas ASA National Age Group
Championships (Sheffield) July 2012
3.2.2 British Gas ASA National Youth
Championships (Sheffield) July 2012
3.2.3 British Gas Open Water National Age
Group and Youth Championships (Rother Valley)
2012
3.2.4 Any Long Course competition from
January 1st to July 31st 2012 which is listed on ASA
rankings.
4. GENERAL
CONDITIONS
4.1 All swimmers participating in the
England Talent Development Programme (ETDP) must be
eligible to represent England at
international level.
4.2 All athletes must be able to fully
commit to attending all aspects of the ETDP. Any athlete who
has withdrawn or been excluded from the
current ETDP season may be ineligible for selection.
4.3 All swimmers will be required to stay
in team accommodation during any residential activities.
5.
PROGRAMME ITINERARY
5.1 Selected swimmers will be invited to
attend two development weekends, and an additional
open water racing opportunity.
5.2 The dates for these will be included
with selection letters.
