MONTE CARLO, Monaco. THE Mare Nostrum circuit came to an end with the always enjoyable sprint knockout rounds, including a textile best from Therese Alshammar. Meanwhile, Ryosuke Irie kept putting up 1:54s in the men's 200 back. The meet took place in long course meter format.

TOP U.S. open water swimmers Eva Fabian (Keene, N.H.) and Alex Meyer (Ithaca, N.Y.) each qualified for the 2011 FINA World Championships today with their wins in the 10K at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The FINA World Championships, held July 16-31 in Shanghai, China, will serve as a direct qualifier for the 10K open water event at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Most events at this meet were swum with four-swimmer finals and normal eight-swimmer consolation finals. The exceptions included the women's 800 and men's 1500 free, which consisted of single eight-swimmer finals.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. SEAN Ryan (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Ashley Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y.) claimed the top spots in the 2011 5K Open Water National Championship in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. For both swimmers, it's their first open water national title.
London Open Water Test Event Course Plan Approved
LONDON, England. THE course plan for the 2011 London Open Water test event has now been announced. The event, taking place on Aug. 13, 2011, will give meet organizers a chance to work out the kinks prior to hosting the 2012 London Games open water competition.
