The ergonomically advanced design of the Agility Paddles helps teach swimmers the correct palm positive hand position. Due to the paddles strapless design, incorrect technique will cause the paddle to fall off the swimmer hand. The Agility Paddlesconvex design also promotes an early catch and reminds the swimmer to maintain an early vertical forearm position. This versatile paddle works for all four strokes and accommodates most hand sizes. Not only are the Agility Paddles durable, but the absence of straps makes them more comfortable for the swimmers and easier for coaches, who no longer have to hassle with broken straps during practice.
Palm Positive
Paddle will remain in place if swimmer maintains early vertical forearm position
Strapless Design
Ergonomic shape is designed to fit the natural contour of the hand
Promotes Early Catch
Convex design encourages paddle to have increased traction with the water
All Four Swim Strokes
Versatile paddle works for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly
Lateral Side Contours
Accommodates most hand sizes including narrow hands
Comfortable Thumb Hole
Creates proper hand placement with thumb and fingers in ideal position
Easy for Coaches
No more broken straps or looking for replacements during practice
Durable Design
No pieces to loose or break
Improved Circulation
No straps to cut off circulation of hands and wrist

Attention swimmers....

Attention Swimmers: Train harder and faster without touching the water

www.competitiveswimmer.com/eyecard

Dear Swimmer,
Want to know why your race times in the pool aren’t improving, no matter how many hours you put in?
Well, you’re probably going to think this is absurd, but it’s the truth.
You need to spend less time training in the water.
Surprised? You should be.
If you (or your coach) are caught up in the belief that the only way to get faster is through high volumes of training in the pool, then you won't progress further than your current competitive level.
Ask an elite coach or sports scientist what you need to do to improve your performance dramatically and they'll tell you that you need to top up your pool training with land-based work outs.
Not just any old exercises with weights, though.
I'm talking about highly-targeted movements, with added resistance, that replicate what you do in the water as closely as possible... so you can get strong in those specific motions and muscles.
Do this, and you'll gain that extra advantage over your rivals.
You might be sceptical now (like I used to be) but this really works. It's been proven in sports science trials with athletes (more on them in a moment) and it's the reason that top swimmers like Michael Phelps got to their lofty Olympic heights.
As the experts in sports-specific training advice, Peak Performance has created a 8-part swimming training plan – based on this evidence – that will help build and improve your:
Strength
Power
Endurance
Speed
Fitness
Hip/trunk control
Stroke technique
It contains elite-level workouts – designed by top international coaches – that are ready for you to use right away; just them print off, and go! Best of all, you can get them all today, completely FREE of charge.
Simply take out a no-obligation trial to Peak Performance – the trusted global source of sports performance knowledge for athletes and coaches – for $1.97 and you can access and download your training programme instantly.
Decide it’s not for you, and you can cancel and get a full refund - plus keep your free swimming workouts.
Before I tell you about Peak Performance, let's look at your training pack in detail...

Your new training plan - tailored to a swimmer's needs

Remember: the difference between another average time in the pool and a brand-new PB could be in your FREE training workouts.
Strike the right balance between lengths in the water and hitting the gym and you’ll immediately see a leap in your performance.
Grab this elite swimming-specific training pack while you can, and put yourself ahead of your rivals.
You’ll be glad you did!
Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Pye

If you're a triathlete or open water swimmer reading this blog you'll know by now that your open water skills are critical to your race performances. It doesn't matter how efficient you are in the pool if you are uncomfortable drafting or zig zag off course in open water.

Let's look at a drill sequence developed by SS Coach Steve Casson which you can follow with a friend in the pool to help you become comfortable swimming close to other swimmers.

Open Water SOAP!
(Open Water Swimming Optimisation, Acclimation and Performance)
During mass open water swim starts and when swimming around marker buoys, a bit of contact with other swimmers is inevitable. Your choices? Drop back or out to the side into clearer water - reducing your chance of catching a good draft and swimming further than you need to - or get stuck in and stay close to other swimmers getting maximum benefit from drafting.

Research shows that you can save up to 38% of your energy expenditure* from drafting behind or to the side of other swimmers. A huge saving that would be insane to ignore. You might have tried swimming close to other swimmers before but found it uncomfortable (or even outright scary) to do so. Open Water SOAP is a drill sequence designed by Steve to help you gain experience swimming close to other swimmers and develop your confidence doing so.

Watch the full SOAP sequence on Steve's website here: swimsmooth.cassonz.com/wp/?p=1912

Steve is based in Northampton in the UK. Find out more about his video analysis and stroke correction services here, and his forthcoming training camps in Mallorca in July and October.

Open Water Skills

In his coaching, Steve recognises the variety of challenges that stand between swimmers achieving their potential in the open water environment. Overcoming anxiety, cold water temperatures, navigating, judging distances, judging pace, wetsuit fitting, coping with choppy water conditions and learning how to gain advantage from other swimmers around you are all skills you need to experience and practise dealing with on a regular basis.

The good news is that using methods such as the SOAP sequence you can develop many of those skills in the pool, just as easily as in the open water.

Kickstarter for Paralympian Marin Morrison: Swimming with Brain Cancer
PHOENIX, Arizona. MARIN Morrison was one of the most inspirational stories to come out of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. The teenager, whom doctors discovered had a brain tumor in 2005, struggled to complete three swimming events at the Games after suffering a near fatal stroke just months prior.

James Magnussen Nearly Posts First Unshaved 47-Second 100 Free of 2013
BRISBANE, Australia. THE second pf three sessions of the Australian time trials featured some impressive swims by the Australian world championship team on the road to next month's world championships.

New Backstroke Start Platform Tested in Russia; FINA Might Approve Next Month
MOSCOW, Russia. THE Russian nationals might not have featured many performances of note, save for a national record, but the meet featured the official debut of a new starting platform for backstrokers that promises to reduce the danger of slipping on the touchpad.

World Champion No More; Mads Glaesner Draws Three-Month Doping Ban

U.S. National Championships Predictions, Part One
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. JUST days remain until the beginning of the Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. Swimming fans have eagerly anticipated this week since the conclusion of swimming at last summer's Olympics. Now, finally, the U.S. will pick the World Championship team. Plenty of big names remain from the London team, but plenty of events have vacancies that will force young, new faces to step to the forefront. Who steps up in Indy will help decide who leads the way for the U.S. this Olympiad.

U.S. National Championships Predictions, Part Two
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. THE third and fourth days of the U.S. National Championships will bring important races for Olympians such as Jessica Hardy and younger swimmers attempting to make their mark, such as Kevin Cordes. Both will compete in the 50 and 100 breast in Indianapolis, and both enter as favorites in both events. Hardy holds the world record in both events on the women's side, but she didn't qualify to swim the 100 breast in the Olympics last year. Now, with a renewed focus on breaststroke, she will battle Breeja Larson for supremacy in these races.

U.S. National Championships Predictions, Part Three
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. HAVING already made my picks for the first four days of swimming in Indianapolis - here and here - only six more events remain to finish up the meet on Saturday. Events on the final day include the women's and men's 200 IM, women's and men's 50 free, and the non-Olympic distance races, the women's 800 and men's 1500 free.

Keep Your Eyes On These Four At USA Swimming Nationals
PHOENIX, Arizona. THE best thing about the year after the Olympics is trying to figure out who will lead the next generation of swimming stars to the next Olympiad. If the United States is to remain at the top of the medal standings in the years leading up to Rio de Janeiro, the next wave of elite swimmers need to cement their status now as ones to watch, to give them time to get used to the spotlight before 2016.

USOC Courting Cities to Bid for 2024 Olympic Hosting Duties
PHOENIX, Arizona. THE United States Olympic Committee is in the very early stages of considering which city would be the best candidate to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, and is currently considering about 10 cities that have host potential.

Stanford Leads List of Schools With Most Aquatic Sports Olympic Medalists
ORLANDO, Florida. THIRTY-NINE American universities were named today as winners of the U.S. Olympic Achievement Award, honoring schools with current student-athletes who won Olympic medals last year, and/or coaches that led medal-winning teams. Among those schools, 18 had coaches and/or athletes with Olympic ties in aquatic sports.

FORD Masters Quartet Break World, National Relay Records in Tucson
TUCSON, Arizona. WHILE several elite younger swimmers were posting impressive times last weekend at the long course meters Southwest Classic on the campus of the University of Arizona, four Masters swimmers were breaking relay records.

Serbia Defeats Hungary in Finals of World League Water Polo
CHELYABINSK, Russia. FOR the seventh time, Serbia won the World League Super Final and a check for $100,000. The team, which twice won as Serbia-Montenegro, defeated Hungary in the final match for the honor. Montenegro--the other half of the former joint country--defeated the American squad for third place.

Fifteen Divers On USA World Championship Roster
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. THREE of the American divers who won Olympic medals last summer in London look to repeat or improve on their Olympic performances this summer at the FINA world championships in Barcelona.

USA Synchro Honors Myrna Hagedorn With Distinguished Service Award
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. USA Synchro recently recognized the late Myrna Hagedorn with the Lillian MacKellar Distinguished Service Award.

In My Mind: Flowers Sea Swim is a Gem in the Swimming Crown
When it comes to creating an open water race, you could only dream about a package that includes magnificent white sand, boundlessly clear, blue water, superb weather, friendly faces everywhere you turn, and an organizational team so efficient their talents rival that of any event, anywhere. For the Flowers Sea Swim, this dream is a reality, and their annual event--having just completed its 21st year--is, like a fine wine, only getting better with age. If you haven't heard of it--or participated in it--you're missing out on a lifetime experience.

Science of Performance: Plyometrics and Its Effect on Swimming Performance
SANTA CLARA, California. PLYOMETRICS start with children doing hopscotch with their friends on the playground. (Do kids still have recess?) However, this seemingly innocuous form of exercise requires specific instruction and progression for safe utilization.
