A mainstay in the history of the Ironman, the Ironman Lottery began in 1983 thanks to the vision of one of Ironman's founders, John Collins, as a way to provide athletes of all abilities the opportunity to be part of the world's most challenging one-day endurance event. The Ford Ironman World Championship is one of the most in-demand athletic events in the world. Qualifying becomes more competitive each year, so the Ironman Lottery offers another opportunity to participate in this incredible event.
The 2011 Ironman Lottery Program officially opened on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 and will close on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. PT with all winning entries being announced on Friday, April 15 at Noon EST on Ironman.com.
The Ford Ironman World Championship selects 200 Age Group athletes worldwide and five Physically Challenged athletes each year via the Ironman Lottery Program. Starting in 2011, slots will NOT be divided between U.S. and International athletes; rather, all 200 names will be drawn from one pool for selection. One entry per athlete, duplicate entries will not be valid.
Lottery Entry: Lottery Application: $40.00 USD Passport Club Membership: $50.00 USD (second chance into the lottery)
In 1990, Ironman enhanced the Lottery Program by establishing the Passport Club and is open to athletes worldwide. The Passport Club offers an increased chance of being selected through the lottery.
