children with disabilities enjoy swimming in mainstream lessons, but it
can take them longer to achieve the early stages of the British Gas ASA
Learn to Swim Pathway.
You can give disabled children a real sense of achievement by
offering a specially designed set of awards to boost confidence at the
start of their swimming journey.
The Alpha Step Awards provide smaller stepping stones for individuals
who need additional support. They are particularly relevant for those
with disabilities but are also suitable for shy children or even
tentative adults who are lacking in confidence.
Once the swimmer has mastered all three Alpha Steps they can progress smoothly onto Learn to Swim Stage 1.
